Those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works.Titus 3:8 I’ve been reading and mulling over the book of Titus.  Do you know what struck me?  How often Paul said, Remind believers toDO GOOD! Here are some examples:Ch.1:8. He tells leaders to be lovers of what is good.Ch.2:3. Paul tells women (older ones, but it applies to all of us) to teach good things to other women.Ch.2:7. Young men are told to set an example by doing what is good.Ch. 2:14. All followers of Jesus are to be zealous for good works.Ch.3:8. Those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works.Ch.3:14. Let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful. The early church was established in an environment similar to today:

  • A hostile culture that rejected the Gospel. (Acts 14)

  • Pagan beliefs, idolatry, and persecution. (Acts 16-17, 19)

  • Some who believed, but many who would not. (Acts 28:24)

So what made the difference?  What brought about the influence of the Gospel?  What caused Jesus to be worshipped as Lord both then and now, in country after country, and culture after culture? There were many factors which, of course, included the power of the Holy Spirit working in people’s hearts and drawing them to Christ.  But there was another powerful agent at work:

CHRISTIANS DOING GOOD WORKS.

Paul, the Apostle, knew the power of doing good!  He urged Titus to stress how important it was to show care and love to others through doing good works that touched other people’s lives. So my question to you is: HOW ARE YOU DOING GOOD?Imagine the Holy Spirit asking you that question!  What would you answer?  With the Fall season beginning and probably all of us being busy, where can you, or where do you, DO GOOD?Caring for a family member?Caring for a neighbor or friend?Welcoming a visitor at your church?Helping in a food bank? School? Shelter Home? Giving financially to a local or overseas mission? Fostering a child, or giving relief care? Helping immigrants learn English? To adapt to American culture? The ways to DO GOOD are endless.  And they are a powerful witness to the love of God flowing through you to our broken and hurting world, bringing kindness and hope to many who need it.Qu: What are you doing personally?  Let me encourage you to pray for God to show you your place to serve Him by simply being kind and doing good.I’d love to hear what it is you are doing in obedience to His Word.Much love, my fellow servants of Jesus,PoppyPhoto credits: GraphicStock Photo
