Got a Sanguine Personality? Here’s Help to Connect with God

Today we're looking at that bright and breezy personality type, the Sanguine. I know I have some of those traits, but not all. Most of us are a mix -- so go ahead and see if you identify with Tammy -- or recognize a friend or relative with her personality type.

Enjoy!

Got a Sanguine Personality?
Here’s Help to Connect with God:

“It’s tough to say ‘No’ to myself,” confessed Tammy. “I like to join whatever is going on that sounds like fun. And it’s just as hard to say ‘No’ when other people call me up and plead for help.

“I hate to say it, but I struggle with squeezing in time alone with God. I’m energetic and like to be on the go, so sitting still on a regular basis and quietly focusing on Scripture goes against my more free-spirited way of doing things.”

Given Tammy’s genuine desire for a deeper connection with God, how can she and other Sanguines feed their souls and stay spiritually fresh?

  • Some personality types will insist Sanguines just have to get with it and force themselves to cultivate necessary spiritual habits.  After all, aren’t Sanguines able to wash their faces and get dressed every day?

“Yes, but,” a Sanguine will respond, “gritting my teeth and forcing myself to focus on God reduces my relationship with Him to a duty, and I don’t want that!”

Whether you sympathize or not, you can see Sanguines face a dilemma!  But there are answers.

Creative ways to take in God’s Word
and benefit from it do exist.

For example:
  • Join a community of like-minded women. Sanguines need people. God designed you this way, knowing that you grow best by being part of a faith community.
  •  Ask yourself: Is there one activity I can drop in order to join a group?  Isolation from other active Christians produces a sense of aloneness, and aloneness often produces spiritual dryness
  • Meet with other Christians—it’s God’s Idea. In a group, you can hear the Holy Spirit speak wisdom and encouragement to you through others.  Not only will you connect more with God, but you’ll also experience the blessings that come through getting together
  • (For more tips on saying NO, check out my Facebook page Here)
  • As you learn about how you’re wired and what draws you to God, what other creative ways can you think of to connect with Him?
  • Is there any action you could take this week to find a group of like-minded women to meet with, or a spiritual mentor you could check in with, or an online group that inspires your desire for time with God?  We all flourish with encouragement!

The writer of Hebrews says, “Let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing but let us encourage one another” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

Qu: What tugs from the Holy Spirit are you sensing. I’d love to know how He is leading you. If I can support you in any way, please get in touch.

Blessings,
Poppy
