Dispatch from Singapore

Singapore is like my second home. It feels familiar. I know people. I love the curry puffs and satay. I don't mind the weather (especially when I'm enjoying air-conditioned comfort). And I delight in the bustle of its energetic people. I also drink in the beauty of tropical flowers and trees. This morning I enjoyed a second session of talking with a small group of young moms while their children were at pre-school.  We covered communication with husbands, parenting, and lastly, dreams for their lives when this stage is no longer all-consuming,Singapore moms struggle with the same questions as young moms everywhere: Should they stay home and raise their little ones? Can they afford to live on one income? Should they put their training and dreams on the shelf for many years while focusing on their children?Reflecting on our priorities and purpose are issues most of us grapple with at different times in our lives.  You might be a young mom, a working woman in mid-life, (or a man) single, married, or divorced--it doesn't make any difference--at some point feelings, thoughts, and questions bubble to the surface of our minds and cry out for attention. To thrive in life, to experience spiritual and personal growth, we need to process what is happening with our soul. In the next few blogs I am going to give you some directions to get the most from this process. For today, let me encourage you  to take step one: 1. Be honest with yourself. Are you restless and bored with aspects of your life? This doesn't mean you are bad or lacking in contentment. Instead, restlessness can signal you are ready to explore new avenues of stimulation. Heb.12:1 says, "let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us" (Amp.Bible). When you run a race, you move forward, experience new insights and challenges, discover new capabilities. God doesn't call us to a static place where we shrivel up--we are called to grow, thrive, and press on whatever our season of life. It is a normal part of human and spiritual development.Question: As a mom, (or whatever gender or category you belong to) what do you dream of happening in your life?  Let me know. In my next blog I'll help you take another step towards this.
